Trean Group Management

Pete Kosanovich

Managing Member

Pete began his career in 1996 at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) as a runner for the Eurodollar options pit. After 3 years he left to trade equity options at the Chicago Board of Options Exchange (CBOE) where he started his own trading group and received his first taste of entrepreneurship.

After some success at the CBOE Pete couldn’t help but notice all the volume at the Merc, so he returned to the CME and started a brokerage and execution operation in short term interest rates.

Afterwards Pete met Stephen French and Nancy Stubenrauch going on to form Trean Group in 2010.

Nancy Stubenrauch

Nancy began her career in 1982 at Merrill Lynch where she performed audit work on the stock side of the business. 2 years later she migrated to the futures side in the accounting department at First Options.

She went on to work as CFO at Hammer Trading, a firm with clearing relationships with Saul Stone & Company, Refco, Man Financial, and MF Global. When Robert Hammer left the business in 2000, Nancy ascended to the position of President and manager.

In 2010 Nancy finally achieved her goal of business ownership by combining her talent and strength with Steve French and Pete Kosanovich to form Trean Group.

Nancy is an Approved principal and Associated Person with the NFA and has degrees in math, engineering and accounting. In her free time Nancy likes to travel, fish, and spend time with her family.

Stephen French

Managing Member

Stephen French’s long and successful career in the futures business started with constantly badgering his neighbor, an accomplished trader, to get him a job on the floor of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. Stephen stopped by his neighbor’s house every day as he walked home from the train and after months of relentless appeals, his neighbor setup an interview with E.F. Hutton & Co. Stephen started the following week as a runner on the CME trading floor. He worked his way up the ladder and eventually landed in the pork belly pit. During these formative years on the floor, Stephen also maintained side jobs like selling tuxedos and working nights at the Lime Light night club.

Stephen became a floor broker and trader while in the pork belly pit and then began backing traders; this was how he met Nancy Stubenrauch, who was running Hammer Trading. Stephen made several moves on the floor from the bellies to the Nasdaq to the live hog pit and that’s when he was introduced to Pete Kosanovich. The 3 of them worked well together and decided in 2010 to form Trean Group. The name ‘Trean,’ which is Celtic for strength, was the perfect fit for each of the partner’s contributions of talent, education, ambition, experience and success.

Stephen is active daily as a trader on and off the floor and is a registered floor broker.
